The Jack Rose cocktail brings together applejack (or higher-proof bonded apple brandy) with tangy grenadine and lemon. If you don't want to make your own grenadine, you can purchase a high-quality version from Small Hand Foods.

Ingredients

2 ounces applejack
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/2 ounce homemade grenadine (3/4 ounce if using bonded apple brandy)
Thinly sliced apple, for garnish (optional)

Preparation

  1. In cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine applejack, lemon juice, and grenadine. Shake vigorously, then strain into a 6-ounce cocktail glass. Garnish with apple slice.
